Grahamwood Reads for the Record!
Grahamwood Elementary Librarian Alicia Fields is to be commended for putting together an amazing literacy event for our primary students. The 5th grade members of Grahamwood’s Student Council were recruited to read Quackers by Liz Wong to the Kindergarten through 2nd students as a part of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. The students read Quackers in both English and Spanish to over 400 students!
Each year millions of elementary students around the world read the same book on the same day attempting to set a new Guinness World Record. “It was really fun,” stated 5th grade reader Carolina Calvo, “because there were a lot of active kids raising their hands and asking questions. They really liked the book and the coloring sheets we gave them about the story.” As a culminating activity, the readers asked questions to check for comprehension and to gather students’ thoughts on the story. A grand time was had by all!
