A little more about our Annual Mardi Gras Parade:
Grahamwood Elementary in conjunction with Rhodes College hosts our annual Mardi Gras Parade. Rhodes College’s Mike Curb Institute for Music has partnered with the Grahamwood Music Teachers Danyelle Harris and Melissa Elsholz to engage students in a historical study of the music, traditions, and the cultural diversity that is Mardi Gras. Grahamwood’s Art Department contributes to the festivities by immersing students in creating costumes while our teachers tie this experience into different elements of the Social Studies curriculum. The celebration draws parents and community members who cheer the students as they march by to the sounds the Rhodes Jazz Band led by Dr. John Bass. Like the background of Mardi Gras participants, Grahamwood students come from many different cultures and through this annual celebration our students become more aware of the diverse world around them.
