Grahamwood Students are on a Winning Streak!

Grahamwood Elementary students have been on quite a winning streak! Claire Scoggins (1st grade) won the grand prize in the K-2nd grade category and Sunny Cui (3rd grade) for 3rd-5th grade in the Belz Museum’s Chinese New Year of the Dog Art Contest. The Grahamwood students won the top elementary prizes from over 80 countywide entries. Art teacher Ann Kling said, “Congratulations to Claire and Sunny and ALL our students who entered!”
CLUE teacher Laura Wilons had a number of winners in the Tennessee Poetry Society’s poem contest. Paxton Silver won 1st for the poem Envy, Leianna Nguyen earned 2nd for Perseverance, Jeff Blumberg won 3rd for Arrogance, and Sofia Lorch won 4th place for her poem Horror. In all, Grahamwood students won 4 of the 7 elementary poetry slam awards!

Finally, we are happy to announce that 4th graders Alexandra Byrd, Hannah Smith and Tyli Knapp have been accepted to the 2018 Vanderbilt SAVY Program for Talented Youth. They will be studying Bioarchaeology at Vanderbilt University this summer.
“I am always impressed with our students and teachers,” states Principal Pete Johnson. “I want to congratulate everyone, and especially Alexandra, Hannah and Tyli, for their remarkable achievements!”
