Innovative Teaching Grants Awarded to Grahamwood Teachers

November 28, 2018

The Junior League of Memphis in November awarded Innovative Teaching Grants to 12 Shelby County School teachers. Grahamwood Elementary is proud to announce that three of these teachers are Grahamwood’s own! Classroom teachers Lindsey Rothenbach and Grace Henderson, and P.E. teacher Andrew Martin each wrote grants that won Junior League funding. Here is what each had to say:

Lindsey Rothenbach: “My grant was written for LEGO STEM Mission LEGOs and supplies. I am going to use them to incorporate STEM activities into my kindergarten classroom and to start a LEGO Mission after school group beginning second semester. My students are thrilled to be getting LEGOs to do some STEM projects!”

Grace Henderson: “My project is for multiple class sets of novels, canvases, paint, and brushes. These materials will allow us to dive into literature, make self-connections with characters by integrating the arts by painting pieces based on what we have read.”

Andrew Martin: “The grant I applied for is for a class set of heartrate monitors. My project is titled "Hearts in Motion" and will give us an opportunity to integrate core subjects like Math and Science into my P.E. classes. The Junior League of Memphis was so impressed that they requested permission to come watch the lesson I teach using the new heartrate monitors.”

“We are extremely excited about our talented teachers being awarded the Junior League’s Innovative Teaching Grants,” says Assistant Principal Tia James. “We have an incredible faculty who always go beyond the expected to give our students the very best education opportunities available anywhere.”
