Dogs at Grahamwood!
Grahamwood Elementary students were treated to a demonstration by Bartlett Police Officers Maliskas and Ryan on how they utilize specially trained police dogs to apprehend suspects. The officers discussed the dogs’ capabilities, training, and work habits. The dogs, usually about 2 years old, undergo 8 weeks of initial training and an additional 16 hours per month. Bono, a Belgian Malinois, performed a search and take-down of a pretend suspect to the amazement and delight of the 5th grade CLUE students who had been learning about canines. “I invited the Bartlett Police Department to visit us and talk about their police dogs,” stated CLUE teacher Laura Wilons. “The students were interested in what these dogs do and how they are trained. It was such a great experience for all of us!”
