Grahamwood Hosts Annual ESL Night
On Thursday, October 3rd from 5-7 p.m., Grahamwood Elementary celebrated the National Hispanic Heritage Month with an ESL Night at our school that was one to remember! Several hundred parents, children, and stakeholders attended, enjoying music presented by ESL students, cheers by our Grahamwood cheerleaders, and information from community organizations. Memphis Public Libraries, Literacy Mid-South, Community Legal Center, Grahamwood’s RTI program, A Step Ahead Foundation, Homework Hotline, Shelby County Crime Victims & Rape Crisis Center, SCS Parent Welcome Center, United Way, Well Child, Kindred Place, Church Health, Grahamwood’s Optional program, and other groups provided information booths for our families. “This annual event is a great opportunity for our ESL families to meet their children's teachers and school administration in a warm, welcoming environment as well as providing access to a treasure trove of community organizations that advocate on their behalf,” stated Optional Coordinator Dr. Jack Maxwell. “We are eternally grateful to all who help expand the educational horizons for our most underserved and vulnerable families.”
