Pumpkins, Crafts & Dads at Grahamwood

Kamia Franklin invited dads into her 1st grade classroom just before Halloween to carve pumpkins and do Fall crafts with her students. Many of the dads were her students' fathers while others volunteered from her church to make sure every child had a dad to bond with for the afternoon. "The students loved working with the dads!", stated Ms. Franklin. "My goal with this activity was to build up parent engagement. For education to achieve the greatest success, we all have to work as partners for the benefit of the children." Principal Pete Johnson hopes to expand Ms. Franklin's program next year in a school wide effort to involve even more dads in classroom activities.
